These two houses were built in 2000 - the year of the first flood, and the gardens were extended, presumably to the extent of the land belonging to the plot, i.e. to the middle of the river. Unfortunately this left a much reduced width for the river - 8.4m. The Environment Agency had given permission for this by one of their officers. The actual date of the works were in the same year as the floods but I do not know which came first. The river upstream below Rustic Bridge is 20m wide and old Borrage Bridge downstream is 23m.
